Resting at CSU after surgery

Tripawds is a user-supported community. Thank you for your support!

CSU called and said Dakota did great and is out of surgery and resting!  They were able to do the TTA vs TPLO surgery for the cruciate ligament.  The TTA surgery offers a faster recovery time.  Dakota will spend two nights at CSU and the plan is to we bring her home Thursday.

Today after dropping Dakota off we purchased gates to keep her confined to one level of the house and we also got some mats for the tile floor.  For at least the first couple nights we will set up our spare bed and sleep by Dakota.

We are now officially proud parents of a Tripawd.

Dakota is beautiful – So glad to hear she is doing so well after her surgeries – it will be a rough few weeks but then things will get back to normal…Keep us posted…..

The picture of Riley looks alot like Dakota… Is Riley an Australian Shepard mix too? Thanks for the encourgement about the realities and providing the faith that things will return to normal.
We’ll be sure to add more photos and footage as she goes through the recovery and regains her love for swimming and chasing squirrels, foxes, and of course the neighborhood cats.

Glad to hear the surgery went well! Try to get some good rest before Dakota comes home, since you may not sleep too well a couple of nights after she is home.

All the best; it is awesome to be a tripawd parent!

Thx so much for the advice on getting rest. It was hard to sleep after she had the biopsy with worring about her licking her wounds. We are going to be very proud parents and it will be an interesting journey she’ll be taking us on. Amy

Since we don’t have any kids this will feel alot like having a baby in the house with getting up at all hours and tending to her needs.

    A Dakota girl…..pawsome!
    Wishing her a speedy recovery!

Good to know she did well. It will be interesting to see how she handles the double recovery. I’m still betting she does better with the amputation than the knee. If I were inclined to bet.

I think you must be just down the road from me, by the way. I’m outside of Nederland in the sticks. And my Dakota also enjoys squirrels, though he thinks your Dakota can keep the swimming!

      Shari,

The vet says the amputation will be nothing compared to the knee surgery. We are doing as much reading up as possible on what to expect and proper care for her when we get her home.
